AUGUST--2024

One of my favorite local artists, Jordan Weber, introduced a new work this month (August 02, 2024). It is located on the rooftop of Mainframe Studios on Keo Way in Des Moines. All four exterior walls of this beautiful building were already a work of art. Now INHALE-EXHALE on the roof, tops it off. Artist Jordan Weber is a long time advocate of race and environmental justice. It is fitting that he worked with the Oakridge Teen Tech Center team during this process. It is even more fitting he dedicated this great work of art to the late (recently deceased) Teree Caldwell-Johnson,   President and CEO of Oakridge. Teree was also a 20 year member of the Des Moines School Board. Her community involvement throughout the years was a huge contribution to so many people in the Greater Des Moines area. Now back to this newly introduced art installation. Here is what I found on the internet. Weber explained words "Inhale" and "Exhale" will be "this self sustainable mantra to focus on your breathing, to calm down and to focus on the difficulty of simple actions by black, brown and indigenous people like breathing or walking down the street without being seen as a threat."
